Background

Upon my return to Madrid in 2020, I started working at the heart of La Latina. I started as a waiter in a Coffee Specialty but ended up leading the team and taking charge of enhancing the café's visual commnucation, infusing it with a distinctive but commercial identity through carefully crafted t-shirts, posters, and other creative elements. It was a thrilling experience due to low budget but that allowed me to not only contribute my design skills but also immerse myself in the vibrant culture of the neighbourhood.

Incorporating a skull drinking coffee into Mamúa brand’s imagery served as a strategic move to deepen the connection with our audience on multiple levels. Beyond simply being eye-catching, this imagery resonates with consumers on an emotional level, evoking feelings of nostalgia, adventure, and fellowship.

By associating the skull with the act of coffee drinking, we tapped into the universal experience of enjoying a cup of coffee—a moment of relaxation, connection, and enjoyment. This allowed customers to purchase a t-shirt not just as a piece of clothing, but as a tangible memory of their experience at our café, a memento of their trip to Madrid, or a symbol of local support for our brand. In doing so, we transformed our merchandise into more than just products with a logo; they became vessels for personal expression and meaningful connection with our brand, fostering loyalty and driving social media content organically.

What meant to me
